It’s finally warming up in Chicago, better late than never! With warm weather comes picnics, BBQ’s, days at the pool and more. Sometimes (okay, always) what goes best with all of these things is a refreshing cocktail. I'm not looking to find the "winter insulation" that I just managed to lose, so this Spring and Summer, I'm keeping it guilt-free! These cocktails are so simple to make, you can be your own bartender!

  • La Croix Margarita – to keep you cool on those ridiculously hot days
    • 2-3 oz. tequila (blanco or reposado)
    • La Croix – try some different flavors…go classic with lemon or lime…mix it up with grapefruit!
    • Squeeze of lime

  • Coconut Rum Refresher – for the beach bums

    • 2-3 oz. unflavored white rum
    • Coconut water – as much as you’d like!
    • Squeeze of lime
  • Maggie Daly – a fun, Chicago-esque twist on the original John Daly

    • 2 oz. vodka
    • 8 oz. iced green tea (freshly brewed to get all those great antioxidants)
    • A splash of lemonade
      • Careful! Most lemonades have tons of added sugar. To avoid ingredients that you don’t like, read the label carefully. Or better yet, make your own.
  • Sweet Sangria - for a Spanish twist

    • 1 light, fruity bottle of your favorite Pinot Noir
    • 2 oz. vodka
    • 24 oz. orange juice – remember to look out for added sugars here too! If you’re really serious, try squeezing your own oranges!
    • 1 oz. local honey (why not fight allergies, too?!)
    • 1-2 cups of fresh fruit – try apples, oranges, berries, or all 3!
  • Prairie Path Gluten-Free Beer - because hey, maybe you're not a cocktail person!

    • Sometimes, a hot summer day spent watching baseball or playing yard games just calls for a beer. This local (to Chicago) gluten-free beer is made by Two Brothers in Naperville, IL, and is every bit as satisfying as the gluten-filled version.
