The holidays are here and we couldn’t be more excited to spend a little time celebrating and relaxing with friends and family. Of course we know this time of the year can be a little tricky to navigate through, especially when there’s so much going on. From who will bring the Thanksgiving turkey, how you’ll still get your daily workout in and whether or not you should grab an extra slice of pie - it can be a crazy time.
When we stress out about the little things, we often forget to appreciate the reason for the holidays and the things around us that make us grateful. Family, friends and of course, food! Stress can affect us in the long run in many ways. But instead of focusing on the negatives, we’re here to help you enjoy these next few days as stress-free as possible with some tips and tricks.
If you’re traveling during the holidays, always plan ahead with your meals and/or workouts to make sure you can maximize your nutrients and release endorphins while still on the go. Just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean you have to drop your healthy habits!
- We recommend packing on-the-go snacks like our almond flour crackers, Vigilant Eats oatmeal cups (all you need to do is add hot water) and Vital Proteins collagen peptides to add to your average cup of black coffee.
- Having snacks on hand, especially when you have dietary restrictions, makes holidays (and holiday snacking) that much simpler!
- Ask your host/family members in advance if you can bring a side dish or two so you’ll know you will have something available to sit if you are vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free, etc.
When it’s time to get cooking...
Prep ahead of time (usually the day before)!
- Roasted everything from sweet potatoes to this vegan green bean casserole
- Turkey the night before - try bringing it to bring out all of the natural flavors. We love this recipe for Maple-Brined Turkey! Try subbing out brown sugar with coconut sugar for a natural, low glycemic sweetener.

- Go for a walk around your neighborhood with your family
- If you’re having people stay with you or traveling to a popular city, find a close workout class to sign up for the morning of, before or after Thanksgiving
Most importantly, slow down and breathe!
- Download the Headspace app for a peaceful and mindful meditation
- Do 20 minutes of slow rhythmic breathing techniques, deep breaths in and long breaths out.
- According to Well+Good, a little slow breathing and yoga can lower stress levels, increase happiness and reduce inflammation! Win win!
