It goes without saying that ingredients are the heart of our business. And we think about them a lot – it’s a healthy obsession! We believe food should give your body more of the good stuff (protein, vitamins and minerals). And less of the not so good stuff (sugar, grains and gluten). Standards that ingredients must live up to in order to star in one of our products. That’s the simple way.
It’s no secret that seeds are tiny packages of goodness. But—like so many great things—there are hidden treasures beneath the surface. The trick? Sprouting. Sprouting unlocks the seeds’ outer coating, making all of the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes accessible to your body. Not to mention that sprouted seeds are higher in protein and fiber. Double thumbs up.
Did you know that grains haven’t always been a part of our diets? Sure, we’ve had a few thousand years to get used to them, but change takes time. Whether it’s due to evolution or not, we do know that the glutens and lectins in grains are linked to irritation and inflammation of the gut for some folks. And grains are naturally rich in phytates, which may interfere with nutrient absorption. Glutens and lectins and phytates: Oh my! That’s why we say, “No thanks” to grains.
Some believe phytates make it harder for your body to absorb nutrients. Grains also contain irritants like Notorious G (gluten), and lesser-known lectins. These guys cause things like inflammation and GI issues in many people. That’s why we say, “no thank you” to grains.
Sugar’s a hot topic these days, and not in a good way. Study after study links it to avoidable health issues. While we’re not the scientists, we are great listeners. Our customers—and our bodies—say they feel better when they’re eating less sugar. It’s feedback we take to heart in the amount and type of sugar we use. Our go-to is coconut sugar. Its low glycemic index won’t spike your blood sugar, so you can enjoy sweets the smart way.
